Sign Permits

In most cases, 2 sign permits are required; one from the Town Planning Department and one from the Highlands County Building division.  The Town's permit form is for zoning approval only and does not authorize the commencement of construction.  The County's permits regulate contractor licensing and compliance with the Florida Building Code.  The County's building permit also requires zoning approval before the permit is issued.

Driveway Permits

In most cases, 2 driveway permits are required; one from the Town Engineering Department and one from the Highlands County Building Division (with approval from the Town Planning Department). The Town’s permit form is for engineering approval of roadway connections on town-maintained roads. This approval is issued by the Town’s Engineering Department and only permits work in the right-of-way, not within the property lines. If the driveway is proposed on a county-maintained road, then approval must be issued through the Highlands County Engineering Department.

A second permit is required for any new driveways within your property lines. This permit requires zoning approval from the town planning staff and is then issued by the Highlands County Building Department. The County’s permits regulate contractor licensing and compliance with the Florida Building Code within the property lines.
